“Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings…”

Do you sometimes have odd ringing in your ears? Or it’s like a high, middle, or low frequency? I do all the time.
It can stop you mid-thought. One moment you’re folding laundry or staring out a window, the next—eeeeeee—a tone cuts through everything else. No obvious source. No warning. Just sound.
So you’re not (that) crazy.
Across spiritual traditions, subtle sounds have long been associated with moments of inner shifting—when awareness sharpens or consciousness changes gears. The ringing isn’t always treated as a problem to fix, but as a signal to notice. A pause button pressed by something quieter and deeper than the thinking mind.
Some people interpret high frequencies as heightened awareness, inspiration, or intuition coming online. Lower tones are sometimes associated with grounding, emotional processing, or the body catching up with the soul. Others don’t bother labeling the pitch at all—they simply use the moment as a check-in: What was I just feeling? What was I just thinking?
And here’s the part that matters most: the meaning isn’t in the sound itself. It’s in what you do when it appears.
Instead of bracing against it, some people soften. They breathe. They listen—not outward, but inward. The ringing becomes less of an interruption and more of a bell, gently calling attention back to the present moment.
It’s only a sign that your spirit is waking up!
That doesn’t mean ignoring your body or dismissing medical care—persistent or distressing ringing should always be checked by a professional. But when the experience is brief, familiar, and non-threatening, many find it helpful to treat it as a moment of awareness rather than alarm.
A reminder.
A nudge.
A whisper that says: pay attention—you’re more awake than you think.
(and here are the meanings…)

(And proof that I’m not the only blog post that is writing about this…)
